Very casual shack on side of the road. We only stopped because of other Yelp reviews, and glad we did!! Awesome raw oysters; large, juicy, and fresh. My fiancé had cheese grits with greens, blackened shrimp, sausage, green onions, and a delicious sauce. It was topped with thin onion rings. I had the grilled shrimp. Both meals very well done. We will be stopping by next time we are traveling through!

Decided to try Gary's, based on Trip Advisor reviews... Even though it is a slight drive from Panama City Beach, the Shack Stack made it all the worth while. Both my husband and I had the Shack Stack - fried mahi mahi, topped with a huge crab cake, topped with 2 scallops, surrounded by delicious grilled shrimp all coated with their secret sauce. If that doesn't fill you up, you have a choice of 2 sides... Highly recommend the red potatoes. Definitely will come back!

Don't see the hype. Gave a 2nd go around and was disappointed just like my first time. The potato salad tasted like it was made in the dish sink (soapy). The portion sizes were too small. The fries are really weird and the crab cakes had no crab in them. Won't be back.

Oh my goodness- the food is delicious! The crab cakes are to die for - and yummy cheese grits! The fish is fresh and delicious - whether you like fried, grilled or blackened. Try the fried oyster appetizer with bacon and cheese!!! Best of all - the service is terrific - this is like eating in a restaurant in Florida in the 50's - wonderful!!!!

Ate at Gary's Oyster House for the first time. Great tasting chilled oysters on the half shell. We had 3 dozens! Also ordered 1 lb of shrimp; had them steamed with garlic butter. They were steamed just right and so fresh! We also had the crab fried fingers. They definitely know how to cook their seafood. My 5-yr old child ordered the grilled cheese sandwich. It was burnt and hardly any cheese in it. But the seafood was great!

Very good fish and seafood and affordable prices. It looks like a shack and it is a shack, but it's a great place to eat. It's not a huge place so going with a group might be a problem. Family owned.

I love this place! We go to lunch here and have never had anything I didn't love. The Gumbo is excellent and so are the tacos. Service is always great as well, awesome people! I just wish they were open everyday:-)

Amazing! I'm not even a fan of shrimp but the bacon wrapped shrimp was great. Mahi tacos were delicious also. No complaints except that I ate more than I wanted . Super friendly staff and owner also. Definitely a must try.

Great, restaurant unique recipes that still are great comforts. Gary and his staff absolutely make you feel at home and the homemade desserts are literally an icing on the cake of your oyster shack experience. The crab cakes, blackened shrimp and cole slaw (both the jalapeño and sweet) were great highlights to our dinner. I recommend all of them! This is definitely a 'must go' if you're ever passing thru Panama City!

Raw oysters are super fresh. The young man on the other side of the counter shucks the oysters before giving them to you. The fried shrimp and scallop were great . I was also impressed with their seafood gumbo! We came during the lunch rush and almost all the tables were taken. We sat ourselves immediately, were acknowledged by the staff and we didn't have to wait long for our food after we ordered. Great service and great food. My 3 year old son enjoyed the raw oysters. It doesn't surprise me. My husband started eating oysters at 5 years old.

Best Seafood I ever had. Restaurants on the beach need to go taste Garry's food and learn something. Fish,Shrimp and Scallops were perfectly cooked. Cheese grits outstanding. Jalapeño Cole slaw off the chain. Real sweet tea....

Wife and I had a great meal here tonight! Dozen raw - nice big fresh oysters. Followed by a dozen garlic-butter-parmesan baked oysters. These were also great, nice sized oysters and cooked just right, not dried out. Followed by a cup of good gumbo and a cup cheese grits, the hush puppies were first class. We didn't need it, but we had to try the bacon fried oysters, topped with remoulade sauce on a bed of lettuce - glad we tried them because they were fantastic. But alas we ate tooo much. This place is now on our A list for places to take out of town company for seafood.

I travel a lot in business and I always look for "locally owned" places where locals actually eat and enjoy themselves. Well, I actually live near this restaurant and it's awesome. MUCH better than chain type restaurants with frozen food. Gary has truly figured out how to use the best local ingredients along with fantastic preparation to create an incredible restaurant. I will certainly be back!
